The curved base allows an overall rocking motion in all directions, and each pad follows the body segment it supports. Balance does not mean the base is still; it refers to how you and the seat work together. Aporia does not move your pelvis on its own: it has no motor. Blue Portance calls its range “bioactive seating”: the name refers to a design principle, letting the body’s own movement happen while seated; it is not a claim of a biological or therapeutic effect.

What principles is it based on?

Principle

What the seat does

Overall rocking

The curved base allows rocking in all directions; the whole seat keeps and recovers its balance

Free sacroiliac joint

Each half of the pelvis is supported by its own pads: the small movements of the sacroiliac joint (nutation, counternutation, small rotations in the transverse plane) are not blocked by the seat

Each pad’s own mobility

Mounted on the base, each pad follows the overall rocking and has its own mobility in all directions on its joint, with a limited range; it follows the segment it supports (buttock or thigh, right or left)

Mobile contact points

Each pad follows the movement initiated by the body

Independent pads

Front, back, right and left respond separately: weight shifts and rotations are possible without all supports responding the same way

Distribution

No single pressure point

Targeted offloading if needed

Central cut-out (Perineal), rear cut-out (Coccyx) or continuous midline channel (Canyon); continuous support (Back Pain)

Damping

The joints absorb shocks and vibrations, in the car for example

How does the Aporia ExoBase work?

The curved base allows an overall rocking motion in all directions. Mounted on this base, four independent pads follow this overall motion; each one also has its own mobility in all directions on an elastomer joint, with a limited range, and supports and follows one of the four body segments in contact with the seat (the two buttocks and the back of the two thighs). The pelvis follows both the overall rocking and the tilt of each pad; each segment follows its pad. Each pad (front right, front left, back right, back left) has its own foam and cover. An EPDM layer prevents “bottoming out”. Two firmness options: Balanced Comfort (Dynamic Support) and Enveloping Comfort (Cushioning Effect, with a 2 cm / 0.8 in viscoelastic layer). Two wedges are supplied to adjust the tilt of the seat to your natural balance profile (the “zero point”).
